What is TideView

Q: What is TideView Nature School?
A: TideView Nature School is an outdoor educational program based in Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia. It is designed for children, focusing on nature-based learning. We currently operate at Cole Harbour Heritage Park, offering immersive experiences in the natural environment.

When does it start?

Q: When does the program run?
A: Our half-day program runs from January 15th, 2023, to June 14th, 2024. We hold sessions on Mondays and Fridays, with one session in the morning and one in the afternoon, each lasting 2 1/2 hours.

What time?

Q: What are the session timings?
A: Each session is 2 1/2 hours long. The exact timings for morning and afternoon sessions will be communicated upon registration if any change is necessary.

Fee

Q: Is there a registration fee?
A: Yes, there is a $70 registration fee, which is non-refundable unless we have to cancel the program for any reason.

Clothes

Q: What should my child wear to the program?
A: Since our program operates year-round, including winter, we recommend:

  • General: Always dress in layers and be prepared for changing weather conditions. Always pack an extra pair of socks, pants, and a shirt in case of extra soiled clothing.

  • Winter: Dress in warm, waterproof clothing suitable for Canadian winters. This includes thermal layers, waterproof outerwear, gloves, hats, and insulated boots.

  • Spring/Summer: Long-sleeved shirts and pants are recommended. Rain gear for rainy days, and sturdy, comfortable shoes.

What to Pack

Bad Weather

Q: Is the program operational during bad weather?
A: Yes, our program operates in all weather conditions, including rain and snow, as it provides unique learning experiences. However, in extreme weather conditions, sessions may be rescheduled for safety.

Activities

Q: What activities will the children be involved in?
A: Activities include nature walks, wildlife observation, plant identification, environmental education, creative arts, and play-based learning, all tailored to the seasons and weather conditions.

Age Range

Q: What is the age range for children to attend?

A: Our program is designed for children aged 3-5 years old. Please contact us for more information on age-specific activities since we have other activities that will be open to other age groups. Please also do not hesitate to contact us if you would like to discuss any questions you may have related to the age range.

Safety

Q: What safety measures are in place?

A: Safety is our top priority. Our staff are trained in first aid and emergency response, and we maintain a low student-to-teacher ratio. All activities are supervised and conducted in a safe and controlled environment.

Visiting

Q: Can parents visit during sessions?

A: While parents are encouraged to support their children's learning, due to the nature of our program and for minimal disruption, visits during sessions are limited. Special events and open days will be organized for family involvement.

Cancellation

Q:  What happens if my child misses a session or I need to cancel?

A: If sessions are canceled due to bad weather or other environmental circumstances, we will try our best to schedule a makeup session. If the child misses a session due to personal reasons, no refund or makeup sessions will be offered. If you or your family are experiencing extreme difficulties while participating at TideView, please reach out to us and we will do our best to accommodate your situation.
